These men are responsible for maintaining the grounds at the Bangalore Turf Club. You remove them from the scene, the race course will go crazy like a wild horse. But, in reality nobody really notices them or pays much attention to. They are the invisible milieu

This was taken in Bangalore. The little girls were having fun playing in the land-fill area. No fancy toys for them, just each other for company resulting in lots of laughter and joy.

Woman: A colourful tome of secrets

This picture is of a girl who was my house help. A pretty woman, full of beans. A free spirit at heart, but bound by her environment -poverty, lack of education, religious and societal norms. But her eyes speak volumes of unrealized dreams bubbling within.

Dreamin' Monkey

Dreaming of blue skies, green trees and swinging branches; of playmates and play dates...
He was the one I encountered first when I entered the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in Bangalore. He was in a cage, enjoying the sun and contemplating on monkey-life.
He was rescued by the shelter and is being rehabilitated. In a week or two he'd be released into the forest to join his family.
Maybe he was dreaming of that day.

Here's to natural light :)

For a long time I resisted using artificial lights while shooting. I enjoyed the challenges of shooting in available light. Then I discovered that shooting with strobes can be equally challenging and fun -it's akin to painting with light. But, every now and then I go back to my roots -i.e shooting in available light.

Today, I did an interesting food shoot at Zaffran on St.Marks Road, Bangalore; foods that are made with ingredients considered aphrodisiacs. It's for the Sunday edition of Bangalore Mirror. Will post the pics and recipes here: www.su-kitchen.blogspot.com

This was shot in between shots at the food shoot. There was beautiful, soft, natural light filtering through large windows -delightful!

Compose, focus and click -shooting in natural light is that easy :)

Colourful monsoons

Rains bring out the 'ugly' in the city: dirty roads, clogged drains, concrete buildings turn a gloomy grey in the rains. But here it brought out the colours of the city. This was shot in Bangalore.

Through the windshield

I was driving to work when this image unfolded before me. It had begun to rain. I was at the traffic signal when I saw school children rushing through the narrow gate of the school. There were peeling film posters on the walls of the school -a common sight in Bangalore. The entire image was wrapped by the water droplets on my car windshield. I love this image

Curry fans from Korea

A scene straight from a Korean Huckleberry Finn or some such classics of yore?? :) Apparently the Koreans love Indian curry
Seven youngsters had come to Bangalore from Korea to experience Indian cuisine. There was a cooking workshop/demonstration at Tattva by Chef Sanjay Tyagi. This pic was taken at the end of the demo. The Koreans love curry and naan and how....

A sister's take on her transgender brother

This story refuses to get out of my head. One of the most poignant ones that I'd written in recent times. There are so many layers to it that 800 words could do no justice to this extraordinary life. Real lives are much more compelling than fiction :)

Calendar 2012

Just got my hands on the 2012 Calendar, which was released during the inaugural function of the recently concluded Namma Dance Utsav Bengaluru. Lovely calender filled with dance photos. Art mirroring nature

There was this beautiful sculpture of a bird poised to take off. Dancing in front of it were some fronds of coconut trees. It looked like both were doing a slow dance. There was something captivating about the image :)
